A departmental mark for a craft-industry design programme — a monogram built from the interlace of woven bamboo, the material the department actually teaches with.
The material makes the mark
The programme teaches craft materials — bamboo, textile, ceramic, wood — as an industrial design discipline. Its mark should therefore come from a material logic, not from an abstract idea of craftiness.
The monogram is built from the over-under interlace of woven bamboo: the letters pass through each other the way splints do, and the resulting overlaps are the mark’s only ornament.
